In what has been an incredibly fun and feel good story, Canadian start-up Allerta and their fantastic interactive Smartwatch the Pebble has had a record breaking run on the aptly named crowd funding site Kickstarter.
All in all, and with 3 days to spare, the company and their innovative e-paper watches for iPhone and Android has raised $10.2 million and counting from almost 68,000 individual backers. The company has also been able to pre-sell 85,000 of their sleekly designed watches in that time. The magnitude of such a feat is put into perspective when considering that the average crowd funding campaign raises a modest $700. The bar has been officially raised.
Beginning with a goal of $100,000, Allerta was able to raise a staggering $1 million in approximately 28 hours and the rest has been a rapid ascent as backers flocked to the company and their signature product. The fact that the company was able to raise such a large amount for a hardware centred company is extremely impressive and speaks volumes of how backers felt about the Smartwatches and their functionality and simplicity in everyday use.
The watches connect via Bluetooth to your Smartphone and allow among other things incoming caller ID, email alerts and readability, full audio and music control, calendar alerts, Facebook messages, Twitter updates and weather alerts. Allerta is also encouraging third party developers to use the Pebble as their muse for creating other applications such as the already existent bicycle computer and golf rangefinder. We expect to hear a lot more about Allerta and the Pebble in the coming months following their news making run.
UPDATE: Allerta has also introduced a BlackBerry compatible Smartwatch called the inPulse.
