With last week’s announcement of the iPhone 5, people have had time to soak in the specs and assess how they feel about the device before being able to get their hands on it. True Apple Heads are already planning on lining up for their iOS smartphone, but for others the ability to pre-order is both appreciated and preferred.
Thanks to the obvious interest in the latest iPhone, so much so that both Bell and Virgin announced that they were no longer taking pre-orders. The reason according to Bell is the overwhelming demand for the product. According to the good people at Mobile Syrup, a recently released internal document from Bell had the following to share:
Due to the overwhelming success of the Apple iPhone 5 pre-order program, Bell is no longer accepting pre-orders past end of day September 15, 2012.”
Similar news was given from Virgin Mobile Canada who tweeted the following:
“Heads-up! Due to huge demand for iPhone 5, we’re ending in-store and online pre-orders today. iPhone 5 will be back on sale Sept 21.”
Although the number of devices sold via pre-order was not disclosed, it speaks volumes to the type of demand Apple’s latest has been able to generate. The myriad of reviews are mixed about the iPhone 5 and its lack of true innovation, there is little doubt that it will be an incredibly popular device (TQ was on it).
Pre-order devices in Canada will first be released by Apple on Friday September 19th at 3:01 am (EST) and later that morning via Rogers, Bell, TELUS, Virgin and Fido.
