As the date to unveil the Windows 8-powered Surface tablet draws near, the Redmond campus of Microsoft is getting ready to wage war against the Android and iOS powered competition  First of all Microsoft has bombarded consumers with their latest advertisement for Windows 8 along with banner ads for their Surface tablets.

According to the Wall Street Journal Microsoft recently revealed some telling news regarding their aspirations for its two latest products. According to this report the Asian supplier of components for Microsoft had received an order from the company requiring the former to supply them with three to five million Surface tablets for the last quarter of this year. This latest order by Microsoft matches the quantity of tablets that Google and Amazon have given for their Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire tablets respectively. Competing firms should take note, as Microsoft expects its tablets to become a major industry player immediately.

The reputable and storied media company also revealed that the production of Surface tablets had already began at the start of this month, as confirmed by two people familiar with both parties. To date there has been no official update from Microsoft regarding the inventory of devices leading up to the product’s launch.

Since the Surface will have its public launch on October 25, Microsoft has released its preliminary price details. As per these initial statements it seems that the Surface will start at the same price point that its main rival Apple’s has set for its entry level iPad. The lower end version of Surface is 32GB which does not feature a  Touch Cover with it but will come with a built-in touch-sensitive keyboard will cost $499, whereas a higher end version that has 64GB hard drive and Touch Cover will cost early adopters $699.

With these competitive price, the 9.3mm thick  device which features a 10.6 inch screen is definitely looking to give a tough time to the current king of the tablet market, Apple’s iPad. In contrast to the iPad, tablets that were powered by Windows in the past faced lots of hardware issues. So now it will be a great challenge for Microsoft to prove all its critics wrong with the introduction of their very own product that is free from fault.
