Apple launched its 15.4-inch Retina MacBook Pro back in June last year and since then the number of complaints about the device have increased over time, as customers are experiencing different issues with the portable computer. So far the problem that has been reported more than any other issue is the ghosting or burn-in on the display of the device. According to 9to5Mac, “it has resulted in a support thread boasting over 364,769 views.” Samsung and LG are the two suppliers that provide displays to Apple for MacBook, but for several months after the release of 15.4-inch Retina MacBook Pro people failed to figure out which of the displays is causing the problem. Finally many people started pointing out the displays from LG were the source of problem.
However, it’s real tough for any customer to spot which 15.4-inch Retina MacBook Pro packs a Samsung display and which of them boasts LG’s display. This has further increased the agony for MacBook customers. As a result of that Beau Hodges a MacBook Pro user has finally decided to drag Apple to the federal court of law in California by launching a class-suit action against the company. In the case Hodges has claimed that the customers of MacBook Pro have no idea how to differentiate between a 15.4-inch Retina MacBook Pro that features a Samsung display and the one that sports LG’s display at the time of purchase. According to 9to5Mac, “Law360 reports the suit is seeking unspecified damages for Retina MacBook Pro customers nationwide.”
“The electronics giant must know about the differences between the two versions because it spent a considerable amount of time testing the products during research and development and has been inundated with complaints from customers about the LG screen’s problems, according to the suit.”
The complaint said that, “The performance disparity between the LG version and the Samsung version is particularly troubling given that Apple represents the MacBook Pro with retina display as a single, unitary product, described as the highest quality notebook display on the market. None of Apple’s advertisements or representations discloses that it produces the computers with display screens that exhibit different levels of performance and quality.”
Many users have reported that following the problems with LG’s displays Apple has started replacing them with the displays that Samsung has supplied to the company. However, so far Apple has not acknowledged this issue publicly. On top of it the Samsung displays are also not trouble free, as users are experiencing graphic related problems. On the other hand, a number of reports have pointed that Apple might have sorted the issues in the Retina MacBook Pro by refreshing the device slightly last month. Still some consumers are facing major issues with the device.
As a result of that Apple has finally released a software update on Thursday, March 14th that is expected to resolve some of the graphic-related, fans and PowerNap problems with 15-inch Retina MacBook.
