On August 31, TechVibes revealed that the Canada based start up, 2Dots, got some good news when an angel investor plunked $500,000 into the company’s Yworld network. 2Dots is a “boutique practice facilitating change for individuals, teams and organisations” and has recently launched the Yworld invite-only Alpha. The new network is meant to be the future of online collaboration for professionals working in different fields around the world.
Yworld is the brainchild of University of Alberta graduates Rahul Singh and Kehar Gill. The young entrepreneurs built their network completely in HTML5 and expect it to be “a platform for serious creative connectivity and a social interactive tool built around a proprietary algorithm that sorts news and content, rewarding credibility within one’s field.”
The founders of Yworld explained that they noticed professionals were not getting everything they should from social networking and developed Yworld to fill in that void. The network will allow professionals to collaborate, integrate, and communicate with other professionals by building an online portfolio. The system will facilitate the creation of groups based on niches which will in turn lets members in similar industries to stay abreast of the latest developments and also keep in touch with professionals with similar interests.
Interestingly, the members on Yworld will be ranked based on their expertise in their field. According to the company this will help filter out the “noise” that is found on other professional networks and social platforms. The system will take in to account not only popularity but also influence and prestige. This system should allow both old and new users to find relevant information about their industries without being bombarded by irrelevant topics from frequent contributors.
