It has been reported that Canadian wireless provider, Bell will be releasing the rugged Samsung Galaxy Rugby LTE. Rugged electronics devices are basically the same as their everyday counterparts but have been made to withstand extreme conditions. In most cases these devices are meant to be used in the field by company staff and in some cases those in the great outdoors. For example, a person that works as a technician for an electric utility may have a rugged laptop or smartphone that they carry around with them to sites. The device will be able to withstand rough use and falling during the work day.

The rugged smartphone sector is a niche market and not many devices are available for sale. The fact that technologies like Push-to-Talk and LTE exist make the rugged device even more specialized. Even though Bell will be launching their own PTT LTE network in 2013, they still decided to release the rugged Samsung Galaxy with model number SGH-i547c.

The smartphone will run Google developed Android Ice Cream Sandwich and will have a 1.5GHz dual-core processor under the hood. The rugged phone will be able to handle LTE but until Bell gets their network started the device will utilize HSPA+. The Samsung Galaxy Rugby LTE smartphone is military grade strong and holds water and dust proof certification while weighing in at 161 grams.

The display will be a 3.97-inch Super AMOLED display  with 480 x 800 resolution, which is not too shabby for a workhorse smartphone. The device will also have a 5MP camera with a 1.3MP front-facing camera, a 1850mAh battery, DLNA and Near Field Communication (NFC) with S-Beam support.
