Although the BlackBerry 10 was launched with 70,000 apps, which is significant improvement over its previous models, it still needs more apps in its store if it wants to beat its competitors.
Admittedly, the number of apps does not define the success scale of a smartphone and in fact quality of apps is considered when it comes to rating the phone, but BlackBerry’s competitors have a large number of apps, some are very important, and the Canadian company just cannot afford to be behind its competitors, especially when it does not have many tricks left in its bag.
“We are launching BlackBerry 10 with more apps by far than any other first-generation operating system,” said Martyn Mallick, BlackBerry VP of Global Alliances and Business Development, via CNET.
He added:
“With the momentum we’ve built, we’ll continue to see thousands of apps added each and every week.”
Mallick also mentioned that BlackBerry has “top applications” at the time of its launch. According to The Guardian, he said:
“Yes, we have Skype committed to BlackBerry 10. And yes, we have Amazon Kindle committed to BlackBerry 10. And yes, we have WhatsApp committed to BlackBerry 10. We have SAP committed to BlackBerry 10. And yes, we have Angry Birds committed to BlackBerry 10.”
He continued:
“We have over 1,000 of those top applications from around the world committed to BlackBerry 10.”
At present, Apple and Microsoft are providing plenty of apps and even if BlackBerry is unable to meet those numbers it must ensure providing the best apps to the users in the days to come. It should also be noted that an app for YouTube is not present in the new BlackBerry, but users can access the video-sharing website through the browser.
