Pursuing its goal of revamping its tarnished image, BlackBerry has taken another step in the forward direction by adding two directors to its board. The new members are Richard Lynch, former Vice President of Verizon Communications, and Bert Nordberg, former Chief Executive Officer of Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications. The recent additions have taken the total number of directors to 12.

BlackBerry hopes to benefit from their experience and ride on the momentum created by the launch of BlackBerry 10 recently. It is pertinent to note here that BlackBerry has built its new smartphone right from the scratch by ignoring ideas behind creation of its previous models. Also, it would not be an understatement to say that BlackBerry has launched into the market once again, though it already had loyalty of many customers.

BlackBerry faces a daunting task of competing and sustaining in the market in longer run, and if it is able to win the hearts of consumers globally through its new product it will be a huge achievement for the Canadian-based company that is trying its best to attain success.

The addition of two new members is also aimed at exploring more avenues to take the company on the road to success so that the shareholders can also get benefit. Both Lynch and Nordberg have extraordinary profiles.

Lynch is currently President of FB Associates LLC, a consultancy with expertise in technology, marketing in business. Apart from serving Verizon at a key position, he also held positions in boards of many industry organisations including the CDMA Development Group (CDG) and the GSM Association (GSMA). He also served the Federal Communications Commission Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) and Communications Security Reliability and Interoperability Council (CSRIC) as a member.

Nordberg, too, has a very impressive profile. At present, he serves as Chairman of Vestas Win Systems, A/S (Denmark) along with serving as Director on the boards of Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget (SCA) (Sweden) and Kcell Joint Stock Company (Kazakhstan). He is also a member of the Hewlett Packard Communications, Media & Entertainment Board of Industry Advisors (USA).

BlackBerry board Chair Board Barbara Stymiest said of appointing them:

“We are very pleased to add the talent and industry knowledge of these two respected executives to our Board. We are looking forward to their contributions as we continue to drive for long-term shareholder value and seek opportunities to leverage the extraordinary BlackBerry 10 platform launched last week.”
