BlackBerry’s newly released all-touch smartphone Z10 was warmly greeted in both Canada and the United Kingdom. Some may think that this is the positive sign the Canadian firm needs to launch their new handsets in every corner of the world. That is not the case and according to the latest update from Nikkei, a Japanese newspaper, and AllThingsD BlackBerry is not going to sell its new BB10 platform and Z10 smartphone in Japan. The company has stopped selling its phones in the country or at least reduced its sales. The Canada-based smartphone maker has made it known through a statement that it has sent to AllThingsD, as per which “Japan is not a major market for BlackBerry, and we have no plans to launch BlackBerry 10 devices there at this time.”

Later Engadget also confirmed the report as the site also received an official statement from BlackBerry, which says, “We are in the process of launching BlackBerry 10 globally in key markets and we are seeing positive demand for the BlackBerry Z10 in countries where it has already launched. Japan is not a major market for BlackBerry and we have no plans to launch BlackBerry 10 devices there at this time. However, we will continue to support BlackBerry customers in Japan.”

Mentioning the reason for discontinuing the selling of BlackBerry handsets in Japan, Nikkei stated that the Waterloo-based made the decision because it was not able to bear the cost of making significant language changes to its latest BB10 operating system. Therefore, the smartphone manufacturer decided to drop the idea of launching its new software and hardware in the country. The business daily newspaper also wrote that another reason for discontinuing the sales of BlackBerry in the region was its sharp decline in market share. As now it holds only 0.3 percent share in the Japanese market because of which BlackBerry was really struggling in this country.

However, this does not mean that BlackBerry has completely lost interest in Asian market because just like Apple this Canadian also has a deep interest in the other markets of this part of world. Most prominent of these Asian markets is Indonesia. Other country in which BalckBerry may have lot of interest would be China, but so far the company has not laid down any specific plans related to the launch of its devices in the world’s most populated country.

Nevertheless considering the importance of China, it is expected that sooner or later BlackBerry may launch the strategy related to the release its latest smartphones in the country.
