A few days after its launch, BlackBerry’s latest smartphone, the Z10, finally arrived in the UAE markets, but the phone made the customers wait way too long as its arrival was delayed for some reasons.
The new BlackBerry was supposed to reach the UAE markets on Sunday (Feb 10), but the phone was not available at the due time, while the retailers also had nothing to say to justify the delay. The phone, however, arrived in the markets late in the day, resulting in a somewhat lacklustre reception. However, the market is expected to receive a huge number of BlackBerry fans today.
Dubai is one of the six places where BlackBerry launched its new smartphone last month. Soon after its global launch, the Z10 first reached the UK markets and then arrived in the hometown Canada. Now, it has reached the UAE market.
In the smartphones available in the UAE, the BBM Voice, a feature that allows voice and video calls over the internet, was not available. Gulf News quoted Farid Faraidooni, chief commercial officer of du, a telecommunication company, as saying about the BBM Voice service:
“We are currently in talks with BlackBerry on launch of BBM Voice and Video services. We shall soon commence testing phase to assure the right consumer experience. We remain committed towards launching new and innovative services that add value to customers in the UAE marketplace.”
BlackBerry is steadily building its name once again in the market and the launch of its new smartphone is seen as a make-or-break move for the company. If the phone succeeds in capturing the market and impressing the fans then BlackBerry will be on the course of recovery and may well reach new heights. However, any result in the opposite direction will hurt the company badly.
Because the new phone has just been launched and is yet to reach all the markets, it is difficult to ascertain the level of success it has attained. However, initial reports from nearly all the markets are positive. That said, the actual sales figure will be able to tell the magnitude of its success and we will have to wait for the end of the fiscal year to know the exact figures.
Meanwhile, the U.S. market is yet to get its hands on the new BlackBerry smartphone and while the phone is now available in many major markets across the globe, it will not be available in the U.S for at least a month.
