It was worth waiting for the UAE BlackBerry fans who thronged different retailers to get their hands on the latest BlackBerry smartphone, the Z10, that reached the UAE on Sunday.

The new smartphone had been expected to be available to the customers from Sunday morning, but its arrival in the UAE was delayed, causing anxiety and frustration among the fans. However, the phone arrived late on the same day, and while the customers were relatively lower in number on Sunday, the retailers experienced a huge number of BlackBerry fans visiting them on Monday.

The new BlackBerry smartphone was launched recently in six cities at the same time and Dubai was one of them. The launch of the new smartphone is seen as an attempt from the Canadian-based company to take on its rivals, Apple and Samsung, and regain its lost glory in the smartphone market.

The initial reports from the UAE market are very positive for BlackBerry and some retailers are of the view that the new smartphone will be able to attain the success Samsung’s Galaxy SIII and Apple’s iPhone 5 achieved after being available in the UAE.

The success of the new BlackBerry can be determined by the fact that some retailers fell short of supply as the demand was considerably high. The National quoted Nadeem Khanzadah, the head of retail at Jumbo Electronics, as saying:

“At this moment we do not have enough stock … we expect to sell out by tomorrow. The response has been great so far.”

The company has already informed all the sellers that there will not be any short of supply and that they will get all the required stock. Neelesh Bhatnagar, the chief executive of Emax Electronics, told The National:

“BlackBerry has told us that they will ensure there will be enough stock. They do not want to miss out on any sales. This phone is important and will be deciding the company’s future.”

Although this seems to be a positive sign for BlackBerry, it should be noted that these still are early days for the smartphone and so far it has been gathering support from the fans who were already loyal to the brand. Whether BlackBerry will be able to attract new customers is something that we anxiously want to see so as to determine the actual level of success the new smartphone attains.
