Google owned YouTube is a massive repository of user created content that has been sucking eyeballs for several years. Google has yet to figure out how to make the whole enterprise more profitable but is has kept innovating an making sure it tries out new strategies. One flaw that many viewers and YouTube realize exists with the streaming video service is that a vast majority of the videos being uploaded to the site is of low quality. If the search giant hopes to take on larger more traditional content producers it needs to be able to compete with the quality of content they provide. YouTube has realize that not all amateur creators of videos have the equipment or tools to develop high quality output. That is why YouTube has been providing its submitters with tools to help increase the quality of their submissions. The company bought Next New Networks to help in its goals of putting tools, equipment, funding, and guidance in the hands of video creators. Another step YouTube has taken is to launch production facilities across the globe. The first one was located in London and opened up just before the Summer Olympics in the British capital. The second one was in Los Angeles and the company now is launching its third studio in Tokyo at the Roppongi Hills complex. The Google owned site now has facilities for video creators in Europe, North America and Asia.
The Tokyo based YouTube Space will work in a similar fashion to the other two facilities. Select YouTube partners get the studio for free to create new content. They will get access to cutting edge equipment along with a chance to collaborate and develop projects with others around the world. Most of the people who will be able to use the Google created venue will have to apply through youtube.com/space starting April 1. The chosen video makers will be announced later in the year.
The applicant that do get a chance to work in the YouTube Space will have three months in the production venue. They will have access to all parts of the facility including sound stages, cameras, lights, production equipment and editing tools. The Tokyo venue has three production studios along with equipment rooms, screening rooms, post-production facilities, editing bays and foley room.
YouTube wants the space to be more that just a content creation area and is also looking to use it as a area to showcase content. That is why the staff will hold screenings of videos and host live events along with live-streamed music sessions and Google Hangouts. A specific even will be Japanese singer Juju who will perform a concert on February 15.
