Mac4Ever has stated that Adobe has not only upgraded its license agreement for end-users of Adobe Director 12 but the software company has also requested developers, who are publishing paid iOS applications, to give them 10% of their incomes above $20,000. The obvious reason for demanding the 10% income of developers was that the latest Adobe Director 12 has been the first to introduce the capability to publish games to iOS. However, developers in Adobe forums were not too happy with this decision from the multinational company because it will take away a significant amount out of their income earned from the publication of iOS apps to Apple’s App Store. On top of it no less than one game published with this version of Adobe is already available for download on App Store such as Xform Games’ Rally Point 3.

“Publish to iOS devices workflow – Adobe Director 12 can now publish games directly to iOS devices, through a simple, yet powerful workflow. Existing games can be republished to run on the iOS platform. Enhance the gaming experience by incorporating new support for accelerometers and other device specific interactions. * Additional Fees Apply.”

In order to pay the 10% of income above $20, 000 earned through the publication of paid iOS apps in Apple’s store, developers first need to inform Adobe and then disburse this amount of revenue that is paid to them by California-based tech giant. Adobe has outlined the complete terms and condition of this new policy regarding earnings of developers as:

“PAYMENT FOR PAID IOS APPS. WITH RESPECT TO EACH PAID IOS APP, CUSTOMER SHALL PAY ADOBE 10% OF THE REVENUE PAID BY APPLE INC. AND / OR ITS AFFILIATE(S) TO CUSTOMER IN RELATION TO SUCH PAID IOS APP IN A QUARTER (“Adobe Revenue Share”). NOTWITHSTANDING THE FOREGOING, CUSTOMER SHALL NOT HAVE ANY OBLIGATION TO PAY ADOBE ANY SHARE OF AN INITIAL REVENUE OF USD 20,000 THAT IS PAID BY APPLE INC. AND / OR ITS AFFILIATE TO CUSTOMER FOR AN IOS APP. IN THE EVENT THE CUSTOMER CONVERTS AN IOS APP TO A PAID IOS APP, THE CONDITIONS APPLICABLE FOR PAID IOS APPS AS SET OUT IN THIS SUPPLEMENTAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS SHALL APPLY TO SUCH CONVERTED PAID IOS APP. IF THE CUSTOMER IS NOT AGREEABLE TO THE TERMS SET OUT IN THIS CLAUSE, CUSTOMER MAY NOT USE THE SOFTWARE.”
