It seems that South Korean smartphone manufacturer LG had plans to capture the headlines throughout this February because every other day the company appears in the news with a new announcement, leaked images or information on upcoming phones appear online. February 14 was no different and the multinational company has once again made the headlines, as the Korean corporation announced that it has sold more than 15 million units of its original L Series phones. In addition to this, LG also made it known that for the past couple of months alone they were selling an Optimus L Series phone each second, which includes handsets that were released at the 2012 Mobile World Congress.
Following this announcement another piece of news regarding LG emerged according to which Optimus G, the flagship device from the Korean firm, has also registered a terrific sales record and the company has sold more than one million units of this device in just four months.
On this pleasing occasion the President and CEO of LG’s mobile business, Dr. Jong-seok Park said that, “The success of the Optimus L Series is testament to our belief all along that there is indeed a market for well-balanced smartphones that represent individuals’ unique tastes. The new Optimus L SeriesII expands upon the design philosophy of the original series so we’re quite confident that we’ll have another hit on our hands.”
Initially LG had plans to circulate this announcement on Sunday but the company decided to issue it today. The possible reason for doing so could be that the company wants to create more hype about the launch of its forthcoming Optimus L Series II smartphones, which will be unveiled at a press conference on the very first day (February 25th) of 2013 Mobile World Congress in the coming week.
With the launch of its latest L Series range LG is hoping to sell near about 45 million smartphones during this year, but it will not be that easy because the company already faces strong competition from Apple and fellow Korean company Samsung, which together holds 52 percent of worldwide smartphone sales, as per the financial reports of Q4 of 2012.
In addition to this, LG also has a different philosophy of a hit as compared to its main rival Samsung. It is because Samsung managed to sell over 41 million units of its famous flagship phone Galaxy S III alone after it was released in May of last year.
