Earlier on Monday, February 11, we at TQ informed our readers that leading US retailer Home Depot is abandoning its BlackBerry smartphones and opting for Apple’s iPhone instead. The very next day Home Depot confirmed this news by issuing an official statement, which states that they are switching to iPhone. According to TechVibes, “A spokesman for the company stated that almost 10,000 BlackBerry handsets used by executives and managers will be replaced by Apple smartphones. The news comes after BlackBerry reported its best day ever in Canada and the UK.”
With this announcement another organization has added itself to the list of companies, which have abandoned BlackBerry smartphones in the favour of iPhone. This list includes some of the leading organizations like Yahoo and the Pentagon, as they have likely heard the most negative views about the products of the Waterloo-based company. However, Home Depot is the first organization that has dropped BlackBerry smartphones after the Canadian company launched its latest all-touch device BlackBerry Z10 and the new BB10 operating system on January 30th.
Therefore, this was the first bad news that BlackBerry formerly known as Research In Motion (RIM) has received after introducing its next generation platform. In spite of the fact that the new BlackBerry Z10 has yet to be made available for sale in the U.S. plus the feedback of the latest BB10 platform was pretty overwhelming. In fact the majority of the enterprises and telecom carriers which have tested the Dev Alpha devices of BlackBerry, gave positive feedback on both hardware and software from the Canadian smartphone maker. In addition to this, numerous tech analysts have also upgraded the stock price of the company in their research reports. As a result of that BlackBerry’s share saw a huge upward movement even before the launch of BB10.
Moreover, the initial response of the customers towards the latest BlackBerry Z10 was also amazing, as the Canadian company announced that it has sold 50 percent more BlackBerry smartphones on February 5th than on any other BlackBerry smartphone launch date in Canada. A similar sort of statement was issued by one of the leading telecom carriers of Canada, Rogers which stated that they had sold more BlackBerry phones than ever before. So the new BB10 platform enabled both BlackBerry and Rogers to register a new record in their history therefore several tech analysts still believes that it is too early to right off the next gen OS and smartphone of the Canadian company.
