Hewlett-Packard has failed to make its name in the smartphone and mobile industry and it is generally known for its efficient services in the computer market. However, the company is keen on establishing its name in the new market that has better benefits, and, of course, added competition.
HP has already made a failed attempt earlier to enter the smartphone market. It acquired Palm a few years ago, but failed to sustain in the market and eventually stopped production of the smartphones. However, the company did not give up and it continued harbouring its ambitions to enter, sustain and lead the smartphone market.
Now it has been reported by readwrite.com that HP is planning on entering the smartphone market once again, this time adopting Android. The story has not been confirmed by HP, but the writer has quoted two sources familiar with the matter that HP’s first Android device could be a tablet powered by NVIDIA’s Tegra 4 chip, which was launched recently.
There have been reports that HP will not introduce any smartphone in the market this year. If that is true, and assuming the sources are correct, we might see HP launching a tablet with Android this year, and a smartphone maybe next year.
It will be a big achievement for HP if it is able to sustain in the smartphone market in presence of Apple, Samsung, BlackBerry, Nokia, HTC, and others. However, using Android seems to be a good option for HP. That noted, it should also be considered that there already are many smartphones using Android. In this case, HP must come up with a different and unique hardware to attract more customers. Nevertheless, it seems a big achievement on part of Google’s Android as well.
We will get more information about this development during the next few weeks, but it is certain that the collaboration of HP and Android is a strategic move. Android also plans on entering the PC market, in which HP has a strong hold, while Android’s edge in the smartphone market could be of HP’s help. So if all goes well, we can see both companies securing benefits from the markets they have been determined to enter. It could also give a tough time to other competitors in the market, but it is too soon to predict how this partnership will feature.
