It is often observed that there is a huge difference in the preference of men and women because what one gender likes the other usually discards. Similar is the case when it comes to selecting things on the basis of size. For women size really matters, but this does not mean at all that they will always feel attracted towards bigger things because according to the President of Hearst Magazines, David Carey, the majority of women like to have the 7-inch Mini version of the iPad instead of the 9.7-inch variant. Whereas in contrast to the women, men like both small and large tablets, but a slight majority of this gender prefer to have a bigger one.
Carey said this on the base of data, which he had gathered from Hearst Magazines, which at this point in time has 900,000 paid subscribers of its digital magazine.
Carey revealed this fact in front of the Dive Into Media conference audience that was held during this week, he said, “Our men’s products did well on the 10-inch iPad, but our women’s products did not. But they did really well on the 7-inch units—something that you can easily slip into your purse. We saw the 7-inch devices having more traction with women, while the larger 10-inch devices had more traction with men.”
Although, the President of Hearst Magzines shed the light on the likes of both genders, he did not mention whether in the future they are planning to market products to men and women according to this data. Nevertheless, one thing is for certain that the subscribers of Hearst will surely increase in the coming years, as the number of paid digital subscribers is expected to touch the three million mark till 2016, which would quite a feat for them.
Although the company is clearly doing well in the mobile space, even the President of Hearst Magazines acknowledges that it’s hard for him to predict the future, as he told the audience at Dive Into Media conference that, “We and everyone else are in a period of huge experimentation on mobile.”
The Hearst group is one of the largest communication companies in the globe that is based out of Hearst Tower, Manhattan, New York City, from where it takes care of its wide array of media. The major focus of Hearst is its 36 weekly, 15 daily newspapers and over 300 magazines across the world.
