LG’s Optimus G Pro is not a mystery anymore because the South Korean Smartphone maker officially announced the handset a few days ago. On Monday, February 18 the company also declared its international availability. In addition to this, LG also assured consumers that it will release the 5.5-inch beast in North America as well during the second quarter of this year. However, in this latest announcement LG did not give out the exact launch details of the Optimus G Pro and the company did not reveal anything related to commitments with any Canadian telecom carriers. However, it is expected that the hybrid device will land in the region between March and May.

With this announcement it is official that Optimus G Pro is coming to Canada, where Samsung’s phablet, the Galaxy Note II is already quite popular among the users. Therefore, it is expected that the G Pro should get a warm welcome not because it has taken its design cues from Galaxy Note II, but because it is the first product to date that will ship with a new 1.7Ghz Snapdragon processor from Qualcomm. This means that Optimus G Pro’s processor is 40 percent faster than the S 4 Pro that is being used by LG in its previous devices.

Another reason for expecting a decent demand for LG Optimus G Pro in North America is that its 5.5-inch screen boasts an eye-popping 400ppi pixel density that is supported by 2GB of RAM, while for shooting videos and snapping pictures a 13-megapixel camera is given on its back and 2.1-megapixel on the front, so users can enjoy video chat over Skype or other apps. The handset comes in 150.2 x 76.1 x 9.4mm dimensions and its weight is 172g that makes its 11g lighter than Note II, as Samsung’s phablet weighs 183g, but there dimensions are almost identical.

Moreover, LG Optimus G Pro also incorporates NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, HDMI Port along with microSD Card slot and support of LTE network. And to power this device LG has introduced 3140mAh battery in it that is enough to keep it awake all through the day, whereas Jelly bean Android 4.1 will be the operating system of this phone plus tablet. Whether it is upgradable to Android 4.2 is not confirmed yet, hopefully by the time it will land on Canadian soil, LG may roll out an update.
