The New York Times has reported that Google Glass will be getting a style make over from eye-wear designer, Warby Parker. The newspaper has stated that the world’s most used search engine is looking to make their wearable technology product a lot more stylish and wish to use Parker ti create “more fashionable frames.” According to the NYT the inside information was provided by “two people briefed on the negotiations.” At this point in time neither Google or Warby Parker has made a statement about the news. This does not mean that the news is completely false because both parties could be waiting for the right time to make an announcement about any deal they have worked out. Google is really putting its weight behind the Glass project and it seems that they are leaving no stone unturned to make their product a hit with the masses.

Right now Google Glass looks like a techies dream product but is not too fashionable. It is a frame that has no lenses but has a connected augmented reality display that sits on the frame and covers one side of the eye. The New York Times story claims that Google is looking at giving the glasses some function and are thinking about adding either prescription lenses or sunglasses to the frames.

The NYT report has popped up hot on the heals of Google’s announcement for contest to find out how a normal person would use the product. The search engine launched the contest on Wednesday, February 20 which will give normal buyers a chance to try on the Google Glass. The company kicked off the entire experience by going live with the website for Google Glass. For now the site has only three pages titled, “How it Feels,” “What It does” and “How to Get one.” The site also shows the expected colors of the new product which include Charcoal, Tangerine, Shale, Cotton and Sky.

The site states that, ” We’re looking for bold, creative individuals who want to join us and be a part of shaping the future of Glass. We’d love to make everyone an Explorer, but we’re starting off a bit smaller. We’re still in the early stages, and while we can’t promise everything will be perfect, we can promise it will be exciting.
Using Google+ or Twitter, tell us what you would do if you had Glass, starting with the hashtag #ifihadglass.”

The application process is open until February 27 but their is no prize for winning. According to the website, “Explorers will each need to pre-order a Glass Explorer Edition for $1,500 plus tax and attend a special pick-up experience, in person, in New York, San Francisco or Los Angeles.”
