It seems that competition in the tablet market is getting tougher and tougher with the passage of time, as more and more tech companies are jumping into the sector with new slates. Some companies are boasting of the cutting edge features of their tablets to capture the market, whereas others are trying to lure customers by offering slates in various sizes and at extremely affordable price. Hewlett-Packard, one of the biggest PC manufacturers in the world, has revealed its seven-inch tablet called Slate 7 at the 2013 Mobile World Congress on February 24th. This was not the first slate from the multinational IT corporation, as previously it has introduced webOS based tablets in the market. However, unfortunately webOS proved a complete disappointment for HP because of which it failed to make a name for itself in the tablet market.

Now it appears that HP is looking to bounce back in the game with the advent of the latest Slate 7 that is powered by Android Jelly Bean 4.1 OS and boasts an ARM Dual Core Cortex-A9 1.6 GHz processor, “embedded Beats Audio” and a three-megapixel rear camera. The best part about the latest tablet is that HP will make it available for just $169 and due to the price factor Slate 7 has already created a lot of buzz. For the reason that HP is looking to give Amazon and Google’s slates a good run for their money with the launch of Slate 7 as in comparison to Kindle Fire and Nexus 7 it is $30 cheaper in price.

Americans will be the first to get their hands on the new device, as HP is planning to launch it on the US soil sometime during April. The US-based tech company will make Slate 7 available in two different colours red and grey. In addition, it will feature a 1024 x 600 LCD display, 8 gigabytes of memory, battery with five hours life and microSD slot to boost the storage capacity.

On the whole, HP’s Slate 7 seems more like a run of the mill tablet because it does not have high end features like Apple’s iPad Mini and it lacks specs like typical low-end mobile devices. More importantly it is good to see that HP is looking further than Windows 8, as previously it has launched the ElitePad that was powered by the latest OS from Microsoft.
