LG Electronics is one of the very few smartphone manufacturers that warmly welcomes different kinds of operating system and in the past it has launched handsets that are powered by Microsoft‘s Windows Phone, apart from Google developed Android. However, at this point in time the South Korean company is not looking to bring in a Windows Phone 8 model according to Cnet. This does not mean that LG is no longer open to using the mobile operating system from Microsoft. The move does show that it is hesitating because the company feels there is no big demand for such handsets. A representative of LG Electronics said to Cnet that, “We want to give customers what they ask for.”

Another reason for not having any plans for an instant launch of Windows Phone 8 is that Microsoft’s platform is equally unpopular among vendors as it is with the customers and because of the difficulties it has become quite tough for LG to persist with this OS. Finnish mobile maker Nokia, which has stick with the Windows mobile OS, is also going through a rough patch. Although LG was one of the first companies that developed an association with Microsoft to produce Windows based phones like LG Quantum, which were one of the first wave of such devices.

Unfortunately, the slow demand and tough competition from Android based handsets and Apple’s iPhone did not allow Windows Phone to become a true contender for the South Korean manufacturer. Therefore, the company decided to discontinue the device back in 2011. On top of it, Microsoft has developed a more comfortable relationship with Nokia as compared to LG that never allowed the two companies to develop a strong relationship.

For the past year or so LG is focusing more on its Android based handsets because they have a huge demand and the smartphone maker can meet it with its limited resources. To the extent Windows Phone is concerned, the representative of the company said, “When there’s a significant market for it, we will be on board.” However, the comment disagrees with a story that was reported in the Korea Times according to which just last month LG was looking to launch a Windows Phone 8 model in 2013.

For the time being LG has not shown any intentions of releasing a Windows Phone 8, so its fans have to wait a bit to have a clear picture, but in the mean time they will be happy to know that company has joined forces with free software community, Mozilla. Now it will work closely with Mozilla to produce Firefox OS based handsets for emerging markets.
