After developing a wireless charger for the Google Nexus 4 smartphone, LG has now announced “the world’s smallest wireless charger” on Tuesday, February 26th. As you can see from the picture the device when compared to the Nexus 4’s wireless charger is a lot slimmer. The new wireless charger is basically Qi-enabled and therefore it will work with any Qi-enabled mobile device from LG and any other manufacturer. LG has named “the world’s smallest wireless charger” WCP-300 and it will produce another charger like this one for consumers who cannot afford to spend $60 to purchase Orb that search engine giant Google has made available on its Play Store.

President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company, Dr. Jong-seok Park said on this occasion that, “Wireless charging is the holy grail of smartphone user convenience. With the WCP-300, LG was able to deliver both portability with top-class charging capabilities in a device no larger than a typical beverage coaster.”

“At only 6.9cm in diameter, the WCP-300 is designed with portability in mind. Despite its di-minutive size, the charging area is 1.7 times wider than that of LG’s previous generation wireless charger. The new model is compatible with a standard 5-pin micro-USB charger, providing the highest level of charging performance and user convenience.”

“The WCP-300 employs electromagnetic induction technology and is Qi certified by the Wireless Power Consortium. Electromagnetic induction produces a magnetic field that in turn generates an electric current to charge the batteries in devices placed on the charging pad. Certification ensures that the WCP-300 is compatible with all smart-phones that support the Qi standard.”

The South Korean company has recently released a plethora of mobile phones, which includes Optimus G Pro, Optimus Vu: II and Optimus LTE 2. All of these devices have the capability to charge wirelessly just like the Google Nexus 4. With the launch of “the world’s smallest wireless charger” LG has added more spark to its recently released smartphones.

Although wireless charging is not a completely new technology, it has been around for quite some time now, initially it was introduced with the Palm Pre Touchstone. However, at that time wireless charging failed to create waves because Touchstone was thought to be a device that came before its time. Nevertheless things have changed today, as now smartphone manufactures are giving a lot of importance to wireless charging and therefore are producing various options For instance Nokia has introduced z “charging pad” with its high-end Windows based phones, whereas Google is selling Orb with Nexus 4. Moreover, it is also anticipated that Samsung may also roll out a wireless charger with its forthcoming Galaxy S IV smartphone on March 14th.
