The launch of the BlackBerry Z10 smartphone has become a significant day in the history of both BlackBerry and Rogers, a leading telecom carrier in Canada. Reports indicated that both companies have never sold as many BlackBerry phones on a launch day of any BlackBerry device prior to the Z10. However, afterwards the Z10 failed to make any headlines because the sales numbers were not spectacular. In fact some analysts claimed that they do not expect the Waterloo-based company to post a profit even after the launch of the new BB10 platform. An analyst has even said that BlackBerry may sell as many as 300,000 units of the Z10 by the end of the first quarter. But it seems that things are different when it comes to ground reality, as a prominent Canadian retailer, Glentel, that owns Wirelesswave has made it known that the Z10 is its best selling device since it was launched on February 5th.

This could mean that perhaps the BlakcBerry Z10 is selling more than Samsung Galaxy S III and Apple’s iPhone 5 in Canada because Wirelesswave has more than 300 stores in different regions of the country. Therefore, such a remark holds a significant value. On this occasion, Chief Operating Officer of the Wirelesswave Group, David Hartman said that, “We are delighted with strong customer acceptance and customer experience within our stores of the new BlackBerry Z10 smartphone.”

Managing Director of BlackBerry for Canada, Andrew MacLeod added that, “We are thrilled with the launch success of the BlackBerry Z10 smartphone in Canada. In fact, it was more than 50% better than any other launch day in our history in Canada.”

The latest sales news is opposed to the claims made by numerous analysts which have had a negative effect on the stock price of BlackBerry, as its shares plunged by five percent in a single day over analyst reports.

Still on the basis of Wirelesswave’s announcement alone we cannot declare the Z10 a hit because it only gives us an idea of how the smartphone is performing in Canada. There are several other retailers in the market who have not given out any numbers about the BlackBerry device and Canadians have always supported the local manufacturer. This can be judged from the fact that BlackBerry’s PlayBook was a hit in Canada but in the rest of the world it was not received well.

Moreover, Samsung and LG are gearing up to launch their next gen flagship phones in the near future, so this factor can also affect the sales of the Z10 in the coming months. Therefore, BlackBerry Z10 will only be declared a true champion after it safely passes through all these challenges.
