While typing on keyboards has not been an issue for everyone, Fujitsu’s plans of marketing “invisible keyboard” may receive an alien response from the market, unless it introduces the feature in its own tablets and phones and seek acceptance in the broader market gradually.
During the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Fujitsu displayed a prototype for its invisible keyboard. It was similar to the infrared keyboards, but there were no visible rays to track the users’ hand movements. The invisible keyboard allows users to use any flat surface as a keyboard. The camera on a tablet tracks the users’ hand movements and then translates them into typed words through software.
As fascinating as it sounds, it was still a prototype that was presented during the congress and the company will need to further refine it in order to market the product on a large scale. During the congress, the hands of the users were highlighted by providing extra light so as to give the camera a nice and proper look.
The idea to make any flat surface a keyboard is certainly admirable, but there are questions whether a product of such nature is required by the market. For the time being, Fujitsu can just use this technology in its own products and see the response it earns from the market. It is possible that the product gets a surprising response and high demand, but it is equally possible that the product fails to change the trend.
Fujitsu may also bring some adjustment to the concept of its invisible keyboard and market the product accordingly. However, even if the market is not ready for an invisible keyboard (as said by many tech experts) the credit goes to Fujitsu for coming up with such a product.
