After losing a big chunk of the market to low-end mobile phone manufacturers from China, LG decided to change its strategy and as a result of that the South Korean company shifted its focus to producing more LTE enabled smartphones and it seems that the plan is working for LG. The latest announcement from LG came on Sunday, March 3rd and according to the smartphone maker it has sold 10 million 4G LTE enabled handsets globally. However, as compared to its fellow Korean electronics manufacturer, Samsung, the quantity of handsets units sold by LG seems pretty low. Samsung has sold more than 30 million units of its Galaxy S III alone and now the multinational corporation is looking to sell about 100 million units of its successor, the Galaxy S IV, which is expected to make its debut on March 14th in New York.

Still the 10 million mark is considered a great feat by LG because the company has managed to sell twice as many units as it announced back in last August. And now LG is looking to surpass this number by doubling its share in the LTE smartphone market. For that reason the company has recently introduced new models of its smartphones which include Optimus F7, F5 and the much talked about flagship device, the Optimus G Pro.

The Optimus G Pro is the successor of LG’s popular Optimus series phone and it is released in over 50 countries to boost the sales of the company’s LTE enabled devices. The Korean electronics maker has also showcased its new array of smartphones at the recently concluded Mobile World Congress 2013 that was held in Barcelona.

The President and CEO of LG Mobile Communications Company, Dr. Jong-seok Park, said on the occasion that, “Aggressive pushing forward with 4G LTE technology allows LG satisfy the needs of consumers and is a huge factor in our growing success in global LTE smartphone sales. Having established ourselves as a major industry player, we will continue to expand our footprint in the global LTE market with a wider range of differentiated, high quality LTE smartphones.”

If the new collection of LG smartphones are able to lure consumers than the company surely has a chance to double its LTE device sales this year because Strategy Analytics reported that the worldwide shipments of 4G LTE smartphones will touch 275 million unit mark during 2013.
