Field Trip is one of the most interesting apps that Google has developed so far, as it informs users about attractions close to them by working in the background on mobile devices. Now Google has launched the Field Trip app for its iPod Touch and iPhone users, who can learn about interesting sites near them through the app. Moreover, iOS device users will also be able to get historical information about the local sites with Field Trip.

The search engine giant’s new app for iPod Touch and iPhone will help users explore thousands of fascinating places, as Field Trip covers different categories, which ranges from Historic Places & Events to Architecture, Lifestyle to Offers & Deals, Outdoor Art to Obscure Places of Interest and Food Drinks & Fun to Movie Locations.

TNW has listed the full features of Field Trip for the aforementioned iOS devices:

“Choose from three different modes to set frequency of Field Trip notifications. See “Field Trip” worthy places around you on a map, by tapping on cards in map view to pull up enthralling points of interest around you.

Go on a Field Trip while you drive. Field Trip can detect when you’re driving and automatically “talk” about interesting places and experience around you.

Came across an amazing story or restaurant? Mark it as a favorite to easily come back to it at any point.

Capture the memory of a special place, by sharing a wondrous discovery through email and social networks such as Google+, Twitter and Facebook.

Wondering where the gem that you recently discovered is? Find your discovered field trip cards in the “recent’ section.”

Earlier, Google made Field Trip available for Android powered devices only and released the app last September and five months after that it is available for iOS devices as well, but the Mountain View-based company has also made it known that “this app is optimized for the iPhone, not the iPad.”

As far as the working of Field Trip app is concerned, it notifies users only when they “get close to something interesting.” Besides this users can also select local feeds of their choice after which information will automatically emerge on their mobile device screen just as they move about. In addition to this, users can also specify how many alerts they want to see.

Field Trip basically make these alerts by using the database of companies like Zagat (owned by Google),  Yesterland, Thrillist, Cool Hunting, Scoutmob and Curbed.
