Apple has reportedly adjusted its target for the sale of iPad this year, according to DigiTimes, which quoted some industry sources to support the fact that the technology giant has reset its goal for the sale of iPad in this year.

According to the report, Apple had planned to sell around 60 million units of the 9.7-inch iPad, while it hoped to sell around 40 million units of the iPad mini. However, the overall recent figures have declined by around 12 per cent. The report suggests that Apple has now set target to sell around 55 million full-size iPad units, while it the target for iPad mini is 33 million.

Even if Apple is able to achieve the new target, it will be a commendable achievement for the company. However, Forbes notes: “By adjusting its overall shipments and the volume of each unit (iPad Mini sales are now expected to outpace the full-size model), Apple is sending the message that its original stance toward seven-inch tablets was dead wrong.”

Still, it should be noted that Apple dominates the tablet market and has got a strong edge over its rivals and competitors. Moreover, resetting the targets is not going to hurt the company as it generates profit many companies can only dream about. The importance and demand of Apple’s iPad can be judged by looking at a recent report by Apple Insider that mentioned a survey and commented:

“Apple’s dominance in the tablet computing sector seems unlikely to wane in the near future, as a new consumer survey found half of the respondents looking to buy a tablet were planning on getting an iPad.”

There has not been any official word with respect to the report of resetting the targets.
