Several tech analysts have claimed that Apple is looking to introduce fingerprint technology into its next flagship smartphone, the iPhone 5S. China Times has reported on Monday, March 11 that the iPhone 5S will be the first of the devices from the California-based tech giant that will feature both fingerprint and NFC technology. China Times has also made it known in its latest report that Taiwan-based company Chipbond is the one that will provide Apple all the necessary components so the company can integrate this new technology into its smartphone. These essential components includes integrated touch display driver that will make the next gen iPhone capable of seeing fingerprints. Since the report was translated from Chinese therefore it was bit vague and seems to be suggesting that Apple will utilize the fingerprint technology it has obtained in its AuthenTec purchase that is basically a security feature designed for NFC payments:

“The iPhone 5S outgoing will support NFC and fingerprint recognition, fingerprint is more security than passwords, fingerprints can not be copied and will not be stolen, most secure mobile payment device allows Apple iPhone 5S.”

The analysts who had made these claims that the next iPhone will pack a fingerprint technology have got their cues after Apple picked up the employees and the patents of AuthenTec. Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst has repeatedly claimed that Apple’s iPhone 5S in 2013 would sport a fingerprint sensor which users could find below the home button of the smartphone.

The fingerprint feature in Apple’s iPhone have been discussed on several occasions, but since the company has acquired AuthenTec during July last year analysts are also seeing the possibility of introducing the same technology in future iOS devices as well.

Although, integration of technologies like NFC and fingerprint in iPhone seems highly likely, as it is the need of the hour and Apple’s rivals including Samsung have already introduced this in their handsets.  But as far as an ‘S’ phone of Apple is concerned it appears to be a big stretch for the device that usually does not see major integrations like fingerprint technology because the Cupertino-based company tweaks its phone’s features in this model.

Rumour has it that Apple will launch the iPhone 5S during August this year and if it proves true then, that will be the time when we finally get to know what the new device really packs.
