Google’s revolutionary Street View feature within Google Maps is one that has been used by everyone and their aunt to date. Thus far however, the limits of the technology are that we were never able to move beyond the actual brick and mortar exterior of the buildings that stood at the addresses we were searching.
No longer shall you suffer says Google. The company has now made it possible via a new feature targeted towards business to feature 360 degree panoramic photographs of the interior of their buildings and office space. The program has been launched as an aid to business in generating and attracting customers who may be convinced to visit them after spending time rotating around their space over the wonders of the inter web.
Although currently available in a limited number of countries (Canada being one of them), the service is made available in most major cities with the aid of local “Google Trusted Photographers” who have been trained by the software giant. A full list of these photographers is available on the Business Photos website and the photos they take during a scheduled photo shoot of a business are featured on Google Maps and Google Places pages seamlessly and automatically.
According to Google, all that is required to be eligible as a business is having an active Google Place page listing, which has the added bonus of being free. The idea is novel and makes for a tangible competitive advantage for retailers in many industries including but not limited to restaurants, medical facilities, hotels, salons and health clubs. Creative companies may also add distinctive flair within the panoramas with signage, un-ugly patrons as well as anything else that can be used to draw customers and reflect the nature of their business.
