IDC previously made it known through its 2013 forecast report for global shipments of tablets that the increasing number of Androidbased slates indicated that soon it will eat into iPad’s market share. To be precise IDC claimed that in next to no time Android would be able to get a hold of 48.8 percent share in the tablet market, whereas the share of Apple’s iPad is expected to drop from 51 percent to 46 percent. “Android’s gains come at the expense of Apple’s iOS, which is expected to slip from 51% of the market in 2012 to 46% in 2013.”

However, in that forecast report IDC also indicated that slates which measure up to 8-inches would see a big demand in the coming days. IDC’s Research Analyst for Tablet Tracker, Jitesh Ubrani said that, “One in every two tablets shipped this quarter was below 8 inches in screen size. And in terms of shipments, we expect smaller tablets to continue growing in 2013 and beyond. Vendors are moving quickly to compete in this space as consumers realize that these small devices are often more ideal than larger tablets for their daily consumption habits.”

The first prediction made by IDC in that report has not proved true yet. However, it seems that the second claim about 8-inches slates is true, as according to the fresh data of the market intelligence firm, the demand for Apple’s iPad Mini has surged.

In the fresh report, IDC has indicated that demand for Apple’s iPad Mini has doubled in not more than six months time period. The latest report also divulged that out of every three customers, one is looking to buy the 7.9-inch mobile device. There are also  potential buyers who are holding out for the next generation of the 8-inch slate of Apple that is expected to feature the retina display. Plus it is also expected that Apple will offer a fast processor and improved battery that can power the next gen iPad Mini for a longer period.

According to TechBargains survey there are many people who would love to see these enhancements in the Retina display iPad Mini. Apple has launched iPad Mini last year during October and since then the tablet is doing well. In fact now iPad Mini is likely to outshine its 10-inch version this year. To the extent next gen of iPad Mini and full size iPad concerned they are likely to be announced sometime during this year.
