Before the launch of the latest BlackBerry 10 the BlackBerry smartphone manufacturer made it known that its app catalogue would boast 70,000 apps by the time it would unveil the new platform. That is exactly what happened, and on the BlackBerry 10 launch day , CEO Thorsten Heins announced that their app store BlackBerry World had successfully secured more than 70,000 apps. Since then BlackBerry has released its latest hardware and software in 20 different countries and now it is all set to launch in the US. The US market is quite significant for Canadian company therefore Heins and his team were looking to increase the number of apps in BlackBerry World to 100,000 before the launch date of their latest platform in the region. And BlackBerry once again remained successful in finishing the task within time, as the Waterloo-based company declared on Thursday, March 21 that its app store has hit the 100,000 applications mark.

BlackBerry, which was formerly called Research in Motion, made it known on the occasion that since the launch of BlackBerry 10 its app catalogue has added 30,000 more apps in just seven weeks. Although, this time BlackBerry’s task was not as difficult as it was when the company launched its new platform, so one can say that the 100,000 milestone was not entirely unexpected. After hitting the milestone, BlackBerry left the following post on its blog:

“Today, Amazon Kindle, OpenTable and The Wall Street Journal are available to BlackBerry 10 customers and in the coming weeks CNN, The Daily Show Headlines, eBay, eMusic, Maxim, MLB at Bat, MTV News, Pageonce, PGA, Rdio, Skype, Soundhound and Viber will be available for download or purchase.”

BlackBerry’s VP of Global Alliances, Martyn Mallick said on this occasion that:

“The response to the BlackBerry 10 platform and applications has been outstanding. Customers are thrilled with the applications already available, and the catalog just keeps growing, now with more than 100,000 apps.

Top brands and application providers are joining us every day and are seeing the benefits of being early supporters of the new platform. We constantly hear from developers that the BlackBerry 10 tools are easy to build with and that we provide opportunities for app differentiation that they do not see on other platforms.”

In order to make its new platform successful, BlackBerry has not only worked hard to add more apps to BlackBerry World, the company has also slashed the prices of the apps back in January.
