It seems that the Pebble watch has caused other major players to think about wearable technology and recently Samsung’s VP revealed that they are also preparing a smart watch that is likely to be called the Samsung Galaxy Altius. Moreover, rumour has it that Apple is also making a smart watch and it has hired 100 developers for the project. Now the Financial Times has reported that apart from Samsung and Apple, there is another big tech company that is interested in developing a smart watch. The name of that company is Google and according to the report, the Mountain View-based company has deployed its Android team to work on the product rather than engaging its new Google X team. So this means that now there is a third player in the game, as tech giants see strong potential in the smart watch space.
Moreover, with the advent of Google the battle in the smart watch space is now expected to be more intense, as each of the three big tech companies will look to outclass the others by producing a better smart watch. This could be judged from the fact that Google’s smart watch is expected to completely different from Samsung’s device. Given that back in 2011, the search engine giant has filed a patent request for a smart watch that will have a dual-screen flip up display as well as an augmented reality viewer. A picture that was a part of the filed patent revealed a watch with flip up display along with augmented reality viewer which could be used to check the price tag of coffee placed on the shelf in a supermarket.
It seems that the successful Kickstarter campaign for the Pebble smart watch has lured many prominent tech companies and now they are seriously thinking about developing their own a watch. At the start of its Kickstarter campaign, Pebble was seeking $100,000 from its backers, but it ended up receiving whopping $10 million funds and now the startup has recently launched its first SDK for developers. The Pebble watch is made up of E-Paper, so users can change the face of the watch as easily as they download an app over their smartphone. Apart from this, Pebble users get notifications of SMS, email, calls and more, once they connects it with their iPhone or an Android smartphone via Bluetooth.
On top of it Pebble users can download apps on the smart watch like their smartphone. With the many available apps, Pebble users can turn the smart watch into a pedometer, golf rangefinder and much more.
