Patently Apple has unveiled a new patent application from Apple that is showing a completely new concept of future iPhone that will allow both sides of the smartphone to display content either in one go or individual display, as it boasts a stunning wraparound display. This latest patent application from Apple was released by the US Patent & Trademark Office and it shows the same rumoured wraparound display that may be integrated in the much talked about smart watch from the Cupertino-based company. Also, the flexible display could be shaped in a fully transparent, aluminium or aluminium and glass design.
“Apple’s patent shows a perspective view of a possible future iPhone design with a wraparound display which substantially increases the available display area that can be used for display of icons, data, images, video and such. Note that while the design is illustrating an older 30 pin connector, Apple’s Lightning had yet to be announced. Patent illustrations are to represent a general overview and not necessarily the exact design. We can full expect Lighting to be implemented should Apple use this design in the future.”
This new concept display can be described as one of the best inventions from Apple in 2013, as with the advent of the unique dual screen, future iPhones will also be able to display 3D visuals. According to iPhoneinCanada, “The patent filing describes at least one embodiment in which a consumer electronic product features a transparent housing and a flexible display assembly enclosed within the transparent housing.”
As per the figure in the patent application the smartphone will display up to five app icons across the width of the screen, whereas the new design of speaker and microphone gives the hint that the device is Apple’s future iPhone. So now we can say that we have an idea what Apple is working on after bringing the Retina display to its iPhone.
Earlier a job ad revealed that Apple is looking to hire a Communication Application Engineer, who could improve its popular apps iMessage and FaceTime in order to ‘take its revolutionary iPhone to the next level.’ This ad has now started making more sense why Apple actually needed a Communication Application Engineer, as perhaps the company wants to update its apps according to a new display, apart from adding more features to them. So iMessage and FaceTime could compete against their rival applications like Skype and more.
