Roughly two months after the launch of the all-touch BlackBerry Z10 smartphone,BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins has made it known that the QWERTY/Touch Q10 handset is likely to hit the Canadian market in April and at this point in time it is being tested in 20 countries by 40 different telecom carriers. Heins revealed this news at a press meeting where BlackBerry’s 2012 fourth quarter earnings were announced publically. However, the news did not really prove a revelation as the Managing Director of BlackBerry Canada, Andrew MacLeod, had unveiled it back in February when he said that “the Q10 would be available with our global carrier partners in the April time frame.” Nevertheless it’s always good to have an official confirmation, especially on a smartphone like Q10 as die-hard fans of the traditional QWERTY keyboard handset are eagerly waiting for the release.

It is also good that BlackBerry is releasing Q10 as per its original schedule, unlike HTC that had missed a golden opportunity to push its flagship smartphone HTC One in the market before the arrival of Samsung Galaxy S IV. Now it is anticipated that sales of HTC One may get affected as it will hit stores along side the Galaxy S IV.

The QWERTY keyboard has remained one of the top features of BlackBerry smartphones for many years. In fact it was because of this key board BlackBerry, which was formerly known as Research In Motion, managed to earn its current status and decent base of customers. However, strong competition from Apple’s iPhone and various Android cell phones has badly damaged its customer base. Now with the launch of its latest BlackBerry 10 software and hardware, the Waterloo-based company is all set to take on its rivals once again.

Hopefully the brand new BlackBerry Q10 will help the Canadian smartphone manufacturer achieve its goal by luring users with features like a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 Plus processor, a 3.1-inch screen with 720×720 resolution, 8-megapixel rear camera to shoot 1080p HD videos and a 2-megapixel camera on the front for video calling. As far as the internal memory of Q10 is concerned it has 16GB capacity to store data that is powered by a 2100mAh battery with 2GB of RAM.

The smartphone also has NFC, Wi-Fi and LTE connectivity, whereas its overall dimensions are 19.6mm x 66.8mm x 10.35mm. A majority of telecom carriers in Canada such as TELUS, Rogers, Virgin, Bell and more have already opened the pre-registration for BlackBerry Q10, but so far none of them have revealed prices.
