Last week China’s state controlled media slammed California-based tech giant Apple over its warranty policies. The Chinese media said that the multinational company has a different warranty policy in China as compared to the US and other countries. The report stated that instead of replacing iPhones, Apple offered repairs only. To counter the criticism Apple at that point in time released a statement in which the company said that their “warranty is more or less the same as in the US and all over the world.” However, the statement from Apple failed to satisfy Chinese customers. As a result Apple CEO Tim Cook was forced to come out with an apology to the Chinese people. The CEO used Apple’s China website to publically apologise to Chinese customers and to provide the details of a new warranty policies. Here is translated version of the apology from BusinessInsider:

“In the past two weeks, we have received a significant amount of feedback about our repair and warranty practices in China. In the process of studying the issues, we recognize that some people may have viewed our lack of communication as arrogant, or as a sign that we didn’t care about or value their feedback. We sincerely apologize to our customers for any concern or confusion we may have caused.”

“In order to further improve the level of service, we are implementing the following four major adjustment:

Improved iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S repair policy

Provide a concise and clear on the website of the official Apple repair and warranty policy statement

Increase the intensity of the supervision and training of Apple Authorized Service Provider

Related issues to ensure that consumers can easily contact Apple Feedback Service”

Cook repeated that the Cupetino-based company provides a two year warranty on the major components and motherboards of Mac computer, MacBook Air and iPad. Importantly, Cook has provided all the details which customers in China can expect from the warranty policies. Moreover, the CEO also reassured Apple’s customers in the country that they will get similar services, which are offered at other Apple stores across the world. At the end, Cook did not forget to once again mention that Apple has got a great respect for its customers in China.

“Heartfelt thank you to give us valuable feedback, we always harbour immense respect to China, the Chinese consumer is always the top priority of our hearts.”
