A few days back TQ updated its readers about an alleged 2013 road map of BlackBerry, which showed that the Canadian smartphone manufacturer would launch four new devices in each quarter after the all-touch BlackBerry Z10. The line-up includes a QWERTY keyboard for the BlackBerry Q10, a device that may be similar to the PlayBook, a possible phablet and a mid-level R10 smartphone that was scheduled for the last quarter of 2013 or first quarter of 2014. We did not get to see or hear anything about the next Playbook and the alleged phablet of the BlackBerry after that. However, recently a leaked image has appeared online that is dubbed as an “R-Series” phone and it is expected to be that R10 phone, whose sketch was shown earlier in the leaked road map of the BlackBerry. The reason for believing so is that the R-Series is thought as the successor of the BlackBerry Curve line-up, which was a mid-level phone.
The purported R-Series phone in the image will not only be running the latest BB10 OS, but just like the Q10 it will also feature touch and type functionality, as there is no navigation key on the handset like its predecessors. Still it cannot be said with finality that the phone in the image is really an R-Series handset, but one thing is for certain that this was not the first time the model has smiled for the camera, as it was spotted back in December 2012 along with Z10 and Q10. Rumour has it that without contract the alleged phone will bear a price tag of $300 to $400 and it will have lower specs as compared to the high-end devices of BlackBerry.
Although, none of the major specs of the purported phone are out yet, but the gossip on the street indicates that it has built-in 8GB internal storage capacity and an 1800mAh battery cell to power it. In addition to this, the device is also expected to have a slot for a microSD card to boost the storing capacity and like Q10 it will also sport a front facing camera.
For the time being we have to wait for an official confirmation in order to know whether it’s an R10 or another model from BlackBerry because it could be no more than just a prototype, which are often given to developers by the manufacturers for testing purposes. Or we may see some more leaks regarding this handset that will divulge more about the details of the device.
