So far several reports have surfaced online which have predicted the specs of the next iPhone from Apple, but the most noteworthy of those predictions was the integration of the fingerprint sensor in the company’s flagship device. This prediction of a fingerprint sensor in the next gen iPhone was made by numerous analysts, who believe that Apple is integrating this technology to avoid the misuse of NFC that is used for making transactions. Still nothing is official yet therefore, it cannot be said for sure that Apple is really working on such technology. However, a new report suggests that this speculation could be true, as AppleInsider was the first to report that Apple has listed a new job opening in Melbourne, Florida, which states that the tech giant is possibly looking to hire a software engineer for its AuthenTec engineers’ team that works on fingerprint sensor technology.

Here is the job listing that Apple has issued for its Melbourne centre:

“Apple’s new Software Engineer vacancy in Melbourne seeks a candidate that will write low-level control firmware for “sensor ICs” built at the Melbourne Design Centre. These “sensor functions” will include array control, gain control, calibration and security.

Qualified candidates for the newly available job must have a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering or computer science.”

Apple has purchased AuthenTec back in 2012 for $356 million. The company basically focuses on making fingerprint sensor chips. The job listing also states that the successful candidate will work on their ‘LabTool’ software, which is being used for the development of sensor integrated circuits at the “Melbourne Design Centre” of Apple.

The source indicates that since this was the only job listing that Apple has published for its Melbourne site, it clearly suggests that the successful candidate would become a part of its AuthenTec team. KGI Securities’ analyst, Ming-chi Kuo has predicted in his report about two months ago that Apple is looking to introduce the fingerprint sensor technology of AuthenTec to its next gen of iPhone.

Kuo also claimed that the fingerprint sensor will be integrated under the home button of the flagship smartphone that will allow the users to operate the next iPhone without using the password upon entry and it may also authenticate transactions through e-wallet.

The latest report has added more credibility to the speculations regarding the integration of fingerprint sensor technology in the next iPhone. Now we just have to see whether this technology from AuthenTec will be integrated into the iPhone 5S or iPhone 6.
