A couple of days back, TQ reported that Samsung is looking to introduce a mid-level Galaxy Mega smartphone that will be even larger than the 5.5-inch Galaxy Note II. Now Samsung has confirmed that it is certainly going to launch the biggest smartphone in the world with the Galaxy Mega which will boast a 6.3-inch display. However, those, who think that 6.3-inch screen is a little too big for them and Galaxy Note II’s 5.5-inch display is slightly too small for them, they should not worry as the South Korean manufacturer will release the Galaxy Mega in 5.8-inch size too. So it will be a double treat for Samsung fans. Earlier Samsung has made its flagship device the Galaxy S III available in two different sizes and now it is looking to do the same with the S IV.
To the extent specs of the Samsung Galaxy Mega are concerned, the 6.3-inch and 5.8-inch versions will boast different specs. The 5.8-inch Galaxy Mega (in white) is a low to mid-level smartphone and it was developed by keeping the consumers in mind who are not interested to buy its 6.3-inch variant and Galaxy Note II. The smaller version of Mega will feature a 1.4 GHz dual-core processor, a 5.8-inch qHD display (960×540) with a pixel density of 189.9ppi, an 8-megapixel rear camera, a 1.9-megapixel front facing camera, 1.5GB of RAM and 2600mAh battery to power it.
On the other hand, the 6.3-inch version (in black) of Samsung Galaxy Mega is equipped with a 1.7 GHz dual-core processor, 720p display with 233ppi pixel density, a 3200mAh battery, 1.5GB of RAM and alike its 5.8-inch edition it also bears a 8-megapixel camera on its back and 1.9-megapixel camera on its front. However, in contrast to the 5.8-inch Mega the 6.3-inch iteration will have support for LTE, but both devices will come with a microSD card slot to extend the memory and removable batteries.
Both 6.3-inch and 5.8-inch versions of Galaxy Mega will be running Google’s Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 OS plus they will also share the same features that Samsung has offered in Galaxy S IV such as Air View, Multi Window, Group Play, Story Album, S Travel and more. Since both devices lack Wacom digitizer that is available in the Galaxy Note series therefore the cost of these latest smartphones are also going to be lower.
Both editions of Galaxy Mega will be released in May for Russia and Europe. However, Samsung has not announced the launch date of these two new handsets in the U.S.
