Social media marketing is not a job of a trained professional having any exclusive set of expertise in a particular area, but that does not mean that anybody can carry out this task effectively. It is easy (not to mention fun) if you are willing to learn and serve some of your time in learning the industry trends so as to market your products/services through social media.
While you learn to market your services/products, you must also be ready to face some untoward situations. In the light of a few social media bloopers pointed out by Kim Garst, let’s see how we can avoid them.
A very good advantage of marketing through social media is that you can engage your customers rather easily and they can often contact you via Twitter or through any other social network where you exist. However, most of the messages that customers tend to throw at the marketers are often visible to scores of other people, especially on Twitter, and any unforeseen comment or messages can spread rapidly all over the network. So if any of your customers uses an open platform to express their hatred or anger over any matter relating to you, you must be able to deal with it professionally. Remember, it is not your best buddy you are talking to. So don’t hit back in the same tone. Be prepared to face all kinds of responses and handle them accordingly.
If you are tweeting for a company, make sure you use the company’s account instead of using your personal account. Twitter being a medium where people often send messages that are not professional should be used very accurately while you are posting messages on behalf of someone. So make sure that the right message gets out through the right channel.
Whenever you are done composing a Tweet, check it once before posting. You never know when you catch an error that, if posted, could have caused a lot of embarrassment. These factors are quite essential to consider if you are dealing with a professional job. If it is your personal account and you don’t have following of thousands of fans your mistake might not be highlighted, but why take risk?
