Canadian startup Jostle just got a major boost with the inclusion of Don Bell as chairman of the company’s board. Bell is co-founder of a successful Canadian airline called WestJet and has been affiliated with Jostle as an investor and director since 2009. Jostle came into the limelight in 2011 at the Launch @ GROW event and received its first investment with a $3.1 million Series A round in 2013.
Bell spoke about the startup and said that, “Jostle has a powerful ability to help leaders create vibrant organizations where employees are aligned, engaged, and can easily find the help they need to get their job done. It’s been very exciting to see Jostle’s platform help companies stay connected and reinforce their culture, as they deal with rapid growth and worldwide operations. It’s time to accelerate this unique and powerful approach into the marketplace, so I’m excited to work with the team to take Jostle to new heights.”
Jostle CEO Brad Palmer was upbeat about Bell joining the board and said that, “Don has shared our vision, been a key advisor, and served as a dedicated director. It is clear that as chairman he will bring huge value as we navigate our own rapid growth.”
The Vancouver based Jostle offers a People Engagement platform that users can install and run over an an intranet. The technology helps organizations lets employees use a light weight enterprise wide software that helps them complete their tasks. The company says that, “Jostle has created a People Engagement Platform™ that glues enterprises together. This platform enables innovative companies to clarify their organization, reveal hidden expertise and engage their employees. Jostle is enterprise software that is accessible from any web-enabled device and works like a website, without the need to install software.”
The company adds more and states that, “Jostle’s People Engagement® platform engages employees, surfaces content, and aligns teams in ways traditional intranets never could. Our simple, cloud-based platform connects people and teams across organizational boundaries and facilitates teamwork without mass collaboration.”
The company competes against other startups in the same sector including firms like Yammer and Jive. They also compete with providers like Microsoft Sharepoint which offer a traditional approach to company intranets. The idea behind the startup is to create a system that employees actually use and helps the enterprise focus on people, live their culture, enable teamwork, provide context, constantly evolve and strive for simplicity.
