The Dive Into Mobile conference by AllThingsD took place from April 15 to 16 gave several top executives of various companies a chance to speak their mind when they were invited to the conference stage. One of these top executives was social mobile navigation app Waze CEO, Noam Bardin, who shed light on the next five years of the social web. Bardin said that “the next five years will be about fighting for time with users,” which points towards Facebook Home. In addition to this, the chief executive officer also said that he believes that Waze is the “only real” competitor against Google in top markets. Bardin stated that mobile users have a quality bar now and that bar is moving upwards quite swiftly.

Mentioning the Apple Maps app for iOS 6, Bardin said a couple of years ago it would have proved “a fine product”. Sharing his thoughts on the quality of mapping engine from Apple, Barin said, “Apple Maps are definitely getting better, but the challenge Apple has is that it’s hostage to its vendors — and those vendors are weak these days. TomTom is challenged, whereas Google has an unlimited war chest to better its apps”.

“There’s a bigger question of what happens with mobile in general. Overall, there isn’t much difference between a high-end Android and iOS phone, despite the fact that Android is a knockoff of iOS. Samsung and Apple seem to think that they’re going to provide everything. Apple believes services will drive hardware, while Google wants to own each user regardless of hardware, so you have differing philosophies. Apple really needs to learn to partner. You can see that tight integration, as Facebook and Twitter now have with iOS, makes the overall user experience better for both the partner and for Apple.”

Answering a question regarding the arrival of Waze-compatible vehicles, the CEO said with chuckle, “Well, automakers have been working on this kind of thing for a long time. You’ll probably see the first truly connected cars in 2014 — they began construction seven years ago, and we’ll get technology that’s at least three years old.”

Waze is basically a free of charge social GPS app for Android-based smartphones and Apple’s iPhone that give users real-time road and traffic info. The application helps users save money, time and gas by providing them information about their daily commune. Waze is the fastest growing community based GPS app in the entire world and it is developed by Israel-based startup called Waze-Mobile.
