Next Generation iPad Likely To Be 15 Percent Thinner and 25 Percent Lighter – Report

Ming-Chi Kuo, a famous analyst for KGI Securities, has once again created waves as he rolled out a new report regarding the next generation of full-sized iPads. According to Kuo, the production and mass shipments of the next-gen iPad is expected to begin sometime between August and September. In addition to this, Kuo also stated that the new slate is also likely to be 15 percent thinner and 25 percent lighter than its predecessor. Kuo thinks that Apple will go with the new A7X chip for Samsung for their 10 inch device. However the latest speculation suggests that the California-based company is looking to shift gear by signing with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) so it could make chips for Apple’s future devices instead of Samsung. But it seems that Kuo does not agree with these rumours because he thinks that a transition from Samsung to TSMC may require some more time.

 

Here are the exact words from Kuo’s research note: “We think the tablet will, at 7.5-8.0mm, be 15% thinner than iPad 4. The new device will likely be about 500 grams, or some 25% lighter than iPad 4, run on an A7X processor, and sport cameras with similar specs to the iPad 4’s (front HD, rear 5MP). The casing shape and colour (silver and black) and narrow bezel design will be similar to the iPad mini’s.”

 

Besides this, Kuo also claimed that Apple will incorporate the same GF2 touch technology in the next iPad, which it had adapted for the iPad Mini. This adaption of GF2 technology will allow the Cupertino-based company to develop a thinner display for the next-gen of full-size iPad. Furthermore it is anticipated that Apple will also use more efficient chip and display technologies in the next 10-inch iPad in order to reduce the power consumption of the device that will allow the tech giant to use a thinner and much smaller battery.

 

“We therefore think that iPad 5’s battery capacity will be 25-30% smaller, at 8,500-9,000mAh, than iPad 4’s, and the battery’s thickness will be 15-20% smaller, at 7.5-8.0mm, and the number of cells will be reduced to two from three.”

 

This was not the first time that Kuo has made a prediction about a forthcoming product from Apple. More importantly a number of times his predictions turned out to be true. Therefore, one cannot discard Kuo’s latest report regarding the dimensions and production of next-gen iPad right away.
