According to the latest report, a Chinese app store known as 7659.com is said to be offering free pirated versions of apps to the people of China, who are using iPads and iPhones. VentureBeat has reported that the website is only available to people in China, but if someone changes his or her location through a proxy server they could access the extensive selection of new apps and games which includes Badlands, Final Fantasy V and many more. It was reported that 7659.com is giving out apps without any charges after it got hold of a developer provisioning profile from the California-based tech giant, Apple that has enabled it to dispense an app to an “unlimited number of iOS devices.” Although, the Chinese site seems to be doing good to iPhone and iPad users in the country by dishing up free apps, from Apple and app developers’ perspective it is not a good thing at all because they are not earning anything from the apps.

“Thanks to this ingenious enterprise strategy, iPhone owners in China do not have to jailbreak their phones in order to install pirated apps — as Taiwanese blog MicGadget puts it, essentially the same app is being distributed, again and again, with the same license ID. That’s exactly how Apple designed in-house enterprise apps to work, although it’s not likely they envisioned the technology being used this way. Jailbreaking, of course, comes with the increased risks of bricking your iPhone, boosting vulnerability to malware, and blocking updatability to new iOS software”.

The company that has provided the website is called Kuaiyong and it seems to be in possession of Beijing Technology Co Ltd. The surprising thing about 7659.com is that so far it has presumably handed out thousands of apps to the Chinese users, but Apple is still unaware of its existence. On the other hand, Kuaiyong has given a short description over what it does for Apple users outside China. In addition to this, the company at the front of 7659.com has also given a justification for offering the pirated version of app store. See the explanation below:

“Statistics have shown that a significant amount of Apple users are Chinese based. However, the fact is that in China, a large number of Apple users are not very familiar with the iTunes system and how to effectively manage it.

Our goal has always been about bringing Chinese Apple users with quick, convenient and pleasant IOS experience. Since the introduce of Kuaiyong, the proportion of jailbreak in China has declined dramatically from 60% to around 30%. Kuaiyong will hold on to this goal in the future and we would like to see more support for Apple as well as Kuaiyong.”
