Previous reports have revealed that Google’s head mounted device Glass is going to bring a revolution to the technology world, as it would enable users to snap pictures, record videos, get directions through maps, share live videos and send messages without using their hands. In addition, Glass also translates what user say and even displays information without an enquiry. Moreover, Google has made it known that people would not only be able to attach lenses to the device but those who use prescription glasses will also be able don this head mounted device, as the Mountain View-based company is working with top frame designers to make Glass even more fashionable. We had no idea what Google actually has up its sleeve, before Thursday, April 25th when the latest patent application from Google has been issued by the US Patent & Trademark Office, first reported by UnwiredView, has appeared online and revealed the future iterations of Glass.

The picture in the patent gives an idea that Google is looking to convert the future Glass into more traditional pair of glasses by integrating see-through displays in the hardware. Describing the latest innovation, Google said that it’s a, “A near-to-eye optical system includes an optically transmissive substrate having a see-through display region and a repeating pattern of diffraction elements:

“A head mounted display (“HMD”) for displaying computer generated image (“CGI”) light to a user, the HMD comprising: a frame assembly to support the HMD for wearing on a head of the user; an eyepiece secured to the frame assembly and positioned to form a see-through display, the eyepiece including: an optically transmissive substrate; and a repeating pattern of diffraction elements disposed across a viewing region of the optically transmissive substrate and organized into a reflective diffraction grating that both bends and focuses the CGI light; and a light engine mounted to the frame assembly and oriented to illuminate the reflective diffraction grating with the CGI light.”

A recent report had suggested that Glass will include a sensor that would allow it to detect whether it is worn or not. Furthermore, it is said that the same sensor would also enable the users to snap a picture or do other things with just a wink of the eye, but till this day it is not known how that system would actually work with a blink of an eye. Therefore, till any new update we have to hold our breath.
