When it comes to high quality marketing Samsung has delivered some memorable campaigns. Recent times have seen the South Korean electronics maker not only intelligently direct its marketing but also spend a hefty amount to make them simply unbelievable. As a result of that today Samsung rules the Android marketplace and has become a serious threat to the Cupertino-based tech giant, Apple. Samsung’s brilliance can be judged from the commercial it prepared for the Superbowl with Paul Rudd and Seth Rogan which was highly praised by audiences. However, not all of the marketing campaigns from Samsung were successful including a mini-series that the company produced that was not up to mark. Recently the Korean manufacturer attempted something new at the launch of its flagship smartphone the Galaxy S IV in India, Unfortunately it did not work and the Galaxy device maker had to face a lot of criticism for the act.
Samsung has actually made an earnest parody of PSY’s famous “Gangnam Style” song for the event in India by distorting the tune as “Samsung Style.” Samsung chose Bollywood’s top actor Ranveer Singh to perform on the parody along with male and female dancers wearing shinny clothes. The entire spectacle of Ranveer attempting the original dance moves of “Gangnam Style” and rapping the song was quite hilarious, as the lyrics of the song went like this:
“If you like the S3, than this phone is even better. It has an HD screen and it’s just a lot slimmer” and then he says “Samsung Style.”
The video of the event surfaced online when it was posted on YouTube, which has led to over a million views and counting. The Verge has reported that the retail partners of Samsung for India, Reliance Digital has actually made all the arrangements for the launch of Galaxy S IV, including the signing of actor Ranveer Singh to perform on “Samsung Style.” See the video below.
This was not the first time that an act has gone terribly wrong for Samsung, as previously at the launch of the Galaxy S IV in New York City the Korean company has set a line-up of different spectacles, including some Broadway style glitz, which include several risky lines that led The Verge to declare it a sexiest mess. Therefore, now Samsung needs to revisit its marketing plans in order to avoid such terrible acts in the future.
