Following a much needed revamp of their moribund email service Hotmail, Microsoft can give themselves a pat on the back for their work with Outlook.com. The new service has been well received, applauded for features such as the ability to view, respond and interact with your Facebook and Twitter streams while on the Outlook screen and more pleasing interface.
Hotmail probably holds a special place in the hearts of most given that it was most likely our first email account. The 16 year old service was in dire need of an update as it stood pat watching the slow and steady climb of Google’s Gmail, which became the world’s most popular email service earlier this year. The rebuttal service is clean, easy on the eyes and a much better overall product.
We apparently aren’t the only ones who think so. According to engadget, Outlook.com has reached quite a milestone just two weeks after its launch, 10 million members. Although a larger portion than Microsoft would like to admit of the accounts could be spam addresses carried over from Hotmail.
Either way, it is an impressive feat and numbers rarely lie. Outlook.com is clearly a hit and we anticipate numbers will continue to grow given Microsoft’s share of the residential computing market.
