After launching their high-end flagship smartphones, Xperia Z and ZL, earlier this year Sony has now released a mid-range phone called Xperia M on Tuesday, June 4th. Sony introduced the new Android smartphone to offer its customers a competitive handset at a price below the Xperia Z, in spite of the fact that it boasts amazing features and has great overall performance. The new handset sports a 1 GHz Qualcomm dual-core processor, a 4-inch FWVGA touchscreen and LED illuminations with 854×480 pixels, a 5-megapixel rear camera and Sony’s very own OmniBalance design. The 5-megapixel shooter on its back is equipped with an Exmor RS sensor and has 4x digital zoom plus it can shoot videos at 720p with its video recording is set at 30 frames per second. Sony Xperia M also has a front facing camera that can be used for so-called “selfies” and video calls, but the Japanese electronics manufacturer has not revealed its resolution yet.

The Xperia M has an internal memory of 4GB, but it can increased up to 32GB through a microSD card. The device has 1GB RAM and is powered by “STAMINA Mode” battery that keeps it alive for a very long time. The smartphone is running Android Jelly Bean 4.1 that is well complimented by a flood of exclusive apps and custom Android skin. Besides this the handset also offers some top pre-loaded Android apps like Voice Search, Maps and Google Chrome. In addition to this, Sony has also integrated ClearAudio+, xLOUD and 3D Surround Sound (VPT) technology in the new smartphone. Moreover, Xperia M also offers, “one-touch functions with NFC and screen mirroring, to display content on your TV or to share music and photos between devices.”

Xperia M is just 9.3mm thick and features a camera ring and aluminium power key. The mid-range smartphone will be made available in Purple, White, Yellow and Black colour. On top of it, Sony has produced two different versions of this new handset, a single and dual-sim variant in order to target customers in developing markets.

On this occasion, Director of Xperia Marketing at Sony Mobile Communications, Calum MacDougall said that, “Consumers looking for their first steps into the world of Xperia smartphones would be well-advised to look at Xperia M or Xperia Mdual. Both models benefit from Sony’s proven innovation and engineering expertise, and are perfect for those who want the premium technology and experiences often only associated with high-end models.”
