The City of Cupertino made it known on Thursday, June 6 that the draft Environmental Impact Report for Apple’s proposed Campus 2 has been released and people are invited to make a comment. Below is an excerpt from the Environmental Impact Report of the City of Cupertino, which explains the proposal as: “Apple Inc. has submitted a development proposal to replace existing office and research buildings to create its new Apple Campus 2. Most of the 176 acre area is located on the former Hewlett Packard (HP) campus in Cupertino and is bounded by I-280 to the south, Wolfe Road to the west, Homestead Road to the north and North Tantau Avenue to the east and includes properties on the east side of North Tantau Avenue.

The proposal includes:

– Demolition of approximately 2.65 million square feet of existing office, research and development buildings; construction of an office, research and development building comprising approximately 2.8 million square feet; a 1,000 seat corporate auditorium, a 100,000 square foot corporate fitness center and

– Subsequent development of office, research and development facilities comprising approximately 600,000 square feet located on both sides of Tantau Avenue; and

– Associated parking facilities and utility and ancillary buildings including a central plant, two satellite plants and maintenance and security buildings.

Cupertino’s review process will include an Environmental Impact Report, including identification of significant effects from traffic, noise, air quality, etc. and feasible mitigations, as required by the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). Subsequently, public hearings will be held before the Planning Commission and the City Council on both the Environmental Impact Report and the project.”

CEQA requires 45 days to review the draft Environmental Impact Report, so citizens could give their comments on the project. For this purpose a public meeting will take place on June 26 at the Cupertino Community Hall, which will begin at 6:30 pm, where the public will register their comments regarding the project. The cut-off date for posting written comments is Monday, July 22nd at 5:30 pm PST.

However, this is not the first time that Cupertino is going to hold a session related to the Environmental Impact Report for Apple’s Campus 2, as cthe ity has carried out a similar type of session in August 2011. In fact, Apple has also asked people residing close to its Campus 2 area about their concerns regarding its new workplace earlier in April by giving out brochures.
