Google can be relied on to help as many people get online and utilize the internet to meet their personal, professional and creative goals. That is why the search engine giant recently announced in a blog post that it will soon be launching Google Web Designer. The new service is a HTML5 development tool and is for “creative professionals.”

Google gave some details in its post:

“To help advertisers and publishers more seamlessly unlock the potential of cross-device programs, we are investing in a new HTML5 creative development tool – Google Web Designer. Available in the coming months, Google Web Designer will empower creative professionals to create cutting-edge advertising as well as engaging web content like sites and applications – for free. Google Web Designer will be seamlessly integrated with DoubleClick Studio and AdMob, greatly simplifying the process of building HTML5 creative that can be served through Google platforms.”

TechCrunch contacted the company and was told that Google Web Designer is expected to be a “stand-alone product that’ll be aimed at creative agencies and designers.” The fact that Google is launching the product with DoubleClick Studio and AdMob integration means that the company is looking at “native” ads. TechCrunch goes on to state that “it sounds like this tool will be quite a bit more capable and will go quite a bit beyond ads, though Google told me that it’s focus will be on creative advertising creatives.”

TechCrunch also added that, “Google’s only service for creating websites right now is Google Sites, which allows you to easily create basic sites and wikis from pre-built templates. That product has lingered without any meaningful updates for a while now, so maybe Web Designer will be a more sophisticated replacement for Sites’ editor.”

The article also ends by stating that, “It’ll be interesting to see how competitive Web Designer will be with tools like Squarespace, Weebly or Wix’s HTML5 website builder. When it comes to native formats for ads, the standard is now something more akin to the New York Time’s Snow Fall than just a basic site, so Google will have to step up its game if it wants to make it easy for marketers to create these kind of experiences.” Google will probably need to make the new service pretty attractive an usable if its expects to take on already existing services. Users will just have to wait until the service is live to test it out and see what the wizards at Google have come up with.
