Netflix Inks Largest Original Content Deal with DreamWorks Animation to Bring Exclusive Programs for Canadians and Others

The on-demand internet streaming media provider, Netflix, has declared on Monday, June 17th that it has inked a momentous multi-year deal with DreamWorks Animation that will enable the multinational company to bring some of its famous characters to the streaming library for their subscribers in Europe, Latin America, USA and Canada. This is the biggest deal that Netflix has ever signed when it comes to original content. The other interesting aspect of the unique agreement between the two companies is that it will be the first time that DreamWorks Animation and its famous characters are making their way to television via branded shows, which will give original and exclusive content to Netflix.

 

With this deal, subscribers of Netflix in Canada and other countries will be able to see 300 hours of new programs, forthcoming feature films along with Classic Media library and show inspired from hit franchises, which DreamWorks has got hold of during last year. These programs include some of the most famous animated characters that will help Netflix lure a decent number of subscribers. The new shows will be made available from next year in all the regions where Netflix has offered its services.

This deal represents a major expansion of what’s already a phenomenal relationship, allowing us to bring beloved DreamWorks characters to the 40 countries where Netflix operates and setting the stage for us to innovate together as we expand into new markets.”

 

Chief Executive Officer of DreamWorks Animation, Jeffrey Katzenberg said that, “This is an unprecedented commitment to original content in the internet television space. Netflix is a visionary company that continues to redefine the way audiences watch television and it is a thrill to add to their growing momentum.”

 

By signing this deal Netflix has continued its effort to bring more original content to its library, so it could sustain a decent number of subscribers. It is expected that once Netflix makes the new shows available over its streaming subscriber library many parents will hear from their children requests to subscribe to Netflix.

 

Prior to this, DreamWorks and Netflix have joined hands in February to produce an original series called F.A.S.T that is based on Turbo, an animated film. The series will see the first light in December this year and afterwards subscribers of Netflix will get to see new programs for which the company has signed the deal with DreamWorks.
